Mechanical Integrity
John began his love affair with cars well before ever laying eyes on Joan. Although he was known even in High School as " The Camaro Guy", John began his career early. He started as a self-taught mechanic. Working for a small Texaco station in Commack NY, he developed rapidly to an ace mechanic. Furthering his education in mechanical techniques, he studied at the local tech school, LA Wilson Tech.
After working for several years at Pat & Son Texaco, He changed positions to be a mechanic at Elwood Firestone, where he diversified and matured into a master mechanic. Within 3 years he was the head service tech there, leading the way for over 20 full and part-time auto mechanics.
In 1981 John and Joan decided to open their service station in Centereach NY. They signed with Texaco to open Sinatra's Texaco and they were in business for themselves. While in business John purchased and restored his 1971 El Camino, and a 1969 Corvette, previously owned by Joan's Dad. Although the business thrived, after the birth of their beautiful daughter Jennifer in 1983, the long hours started to interfere with the goals of the young couple. The business was sold in 1985, and John started a Matco Tools route, while Joan stayed at home to raise their daughter. John's constant contact with car enthusiasts remained throughout his Matco career, as he advanced in sales to one of the top salesmen in the USA. He was asked by Matco to become a regional Manager and he accepted the offer. His sales team finished #3 in the USA in 1987.
Early in 1988, John & Joan decided to relocate to Florida, staying in the tool industry, and taking care to move their 1969 Corvette gently to their new home. He "shifted gears" in 1990 and began working with new home contractors, and remains working as the New owner of Trade Wind Builders ( TWB INC) today, once again working alongside his wife. Over the years John has acquired a hugger orange 1969 Chevrolet SS/RS L89 Camaro, his "Trailer Queen". She's won many awards including the Swan Award at the prestigious Lake Mirror Classic Concours d'Elegance. One of her shining moments was being featured as the "ride" for their daughter at her 2007 wedding.
John also owns a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It's Rally Green, just like the one he drove back in high school. Taking him full circle in his car ownership. He completed the 2014 Power Tour with a 1977 Pontiac Can-Am, a recent purchase, This beauty was sold through marketing efforts at SS Auto Group. Again in 2019, John took to the road in a 2001 Chevy Corvette for the Hot Rod Power Tour. Just recently in 2024 He once again toured the country on the Hot Rod Power Tour. This time he went for comfort and took 2 good buddies along for the ride. He drove a retired & restored police car a 1996 Chevy Impala.
The couple decided to start SS Auto Group in 2014 to provide a specialized car buying experience for other car enthusiasts. They are looking forward to finding those dream cars for you drivers out there.
